Jake Zimmerman (born July 5, 1974) is an attorney and the Democratic St. Louis County Assessor.[1] He is also a former member of the Missouri House of Representatives from the 83rd district.[2]

Early life and career

Jake Zimmerman attended Clayton High School.[3] He then went on to attend Claremont McKenna College and Harvard Law School.[3] He has worked as a litigator at Thompson Coburn.[3] He is a member of the Congregation B'nai Amoona.[3] In addition he is a board member of the Crown Center, a board member of the American Jewish Committee, and a former at-large member of the St. Louis Jewish Community Relations Council.[3] He is engaged to be married in June.[4]

Political career

Jake Zimmerman was deputy chief counsel to former Governor of Missouri Bob Holden.[3] Zimmerman was also Assistant Attorney General under Jay Nixon.[3] Zimmerman was elected to the Missouri house of representative in November 2006 and reelected in 2008 and 2010.[3] In 2011 he became the Democratic candidate for St. Louis County Assessor.[2] He was chosen for the nomination by the St. Louis Democratic Central Committee over attorney Leslie Broadnax.[2] He faced Chip Wood, the Republican nominee, in the general election.[2] Zimmerman was supported by the St. Louis Police Officers Association.[5] Zimmerman was criticized for not have any experience in the real estate field.[6] He responded by saying that, in this election, it shouldn't be good to come from the real estate interest group.[6] He was elected with 63.7% of the vote.[1]
